Instructions for artistic submissions:


We would like to include stories, plays, and songs related to the following topics:


1) Cuddy Valley as “medicine college” of the Chumash;


2) Chumash Storytelling of Mt. Pinos star system;


3) the Center of the World significance of Mt. Pinos;  


4) stories of native animals of local importance such as Condor, coyote, etc., which are stories of the star systems.


5) rock art throughout Los Padres National Forest;


6) modern use of Mt. Pinos and its reputation as “dark skies” for modern astronomers’ gatherings;


7) “Environmental Humanities” discussion of the “dark skies” importance for today.


8) history on the significance of the grizzly in California history,


9) significance in killing of the grizzly that caused the native peoples to “trust” the white man hunter of the grizzly;


10) story of Peter Lebeck’s death on October 17, 1837,


11) story of last grizzly in the area. 


12) Environmental Humanities perspective on the black bear’s relation to the native americans, and the current status of the black bear, and our local problems in the inhabited areas of dealing with the bears.


13)  People of the land grants and their lives


14)  Hardships of the Native Peoples during this time
